The Main Themes and Topics Covered in This Juzz/Para of the Holy Quran

Para 13, known as Wa Ma Ubarri’u, continues the account of Yusuf (peace be upon him). His innocence is recognised, and he is entrusted with responsibility over Egypt’s storehouses.

His rise after hardship illustrates Allah’s wisdom and the importance of honesty and capability. When famine brings his brothers to Egypt, events gradually lead to reconciliation.

Ya’qub’s grief, patience, and refusal to despair of Allah’s mercy are central themes. Yusuf eventually reveals his identity and forgives those who wronged him.

The family’s reunion fulfils Yusuf’s earlier dream. He attributes his deliverance and success to Allah and prays to remain faithful until death.

The surah closes by explaining that prophetic accounts provide lessons and confirm the truth of revelation. Surah Ar-Ra’d directs attention to signs in the heavens and earth, including mountains, rivers, plants, thunder, and rain.

These signs affirm Allah’s power to create and resurrect. Falsehood is compared with foam that disappears, while what benefits people remains.

The surah describes those who honour their covenant, maintain ties, remain patient, establish prayer, and spend generously. It also teaches that hearts find reassurance in the remembrance of Allah.

Outward demands for miracles cannot replace a sincere willingness to accept guidance. Surah Ibrahim presents revelation as a means of bringing people from darkness into light.

The experiences of earlier messengers show the conflict between grateful faith and arrogant rejection. Gratitude invites increased blessings, while ingratitude brings serious consequences.

The good word is compared with a firmly rooted, fruitful tree. Scenes of the Hereafter expose the failure of false leaders and Satan’s attempts to shift blame onto those who followed him.

Ibrahim’s prayers for Makkah, protection from idolatry, steadfast prayer, and forgiveness close the para’s main themes. The warnings affirm Allah’s knowledge of injustice.

The opening verse of Al-Hijr identifies the revelation as the clear Quran.

Selected tafsir references (Ma’ariful Qur’an): 12:90; 13:1; 13:20; 14:35; 15:1.
